Why does my chimney need sweeping?

  • Sweeping your chimney will stop the build-up of creosote and soot that reduces the danger of chimney fires. 

  • We can also deal with obstructions such as bird nests, soot falls and building debris. and Cobwebs and leaves can also be removed.

  • Soot and creosote, when subject to the damp conditions in your chimney/flue,  produce corrosive acids that will attack your liner or flue. Regular sweeping reduces the effects of such corrosion and increases the lifespan of your liner chimney/flue surfaces.

  • A smoke draw test happens during all chimney sweeps.

  • If you have just moved into your property and have no records of when the chimney was last swept, we suggest getting it cleaned prior to use

What happens to the soot?

Once we have finished sweeping, we will secure the bag of soot and leave it with you to either use on your garden or for you to dispose of through your household waste.

How often should my chimney be cleaned? (This depends on what fuel is used in your chimney)

  • Smokeless coals - at least once per year

  • Wood - once per season when in use

  • Bitumous coal - twice per year

  • Gas - once per year

  • Oil - once per year your

How should I prepare for our arrival?

  • We will need space to work, so it would be very helpful if you would make sure the area in front of your fireplace is clear.

  • Hot ash should be removed the night before and please make sure to remove ash and other debris from the grate. But we can easily clean up the ash if you are unable to do so. Please remove any items from around the fireplace area to prevent any inadvertent damage and move away any hearth furniture and companion sets. 

  • We will need access to a free plug socket for the vacuum cleaner.

What happens when we sweep?

  • Your flue will be swept from in front of your stove or open fire.  Sheets will be laid down in front of the appliance and rods and brushes will used to clean the flue.  This will take 25-60 minutes.  It will be cleaned in a way that no soot or ash will come into your room. using of an

  •  industrial hepa-filter vacuum is always used to contain soot/dust

  • The area will be left clean after a sweep.

How do I pay?

  • Contactless Reader (Sum Up)

  • BACS (electronic transfer)

All payable at the time of the sweep. We will have the bank details with us for the BACS payment during the sweep. Please note, booking for the following year’s sweep at this point can also be done.
